The 2026 CanChamp finals are set. Forge FC travel to Quebec to take on CF Montreal.
After the second leg ended in a one-nil win for Hamilton, it lined up a finals match that Canadian footy fans are not indifferent to. Forge have not lost to CF Montreal in the last four meetings, proving to be a strong adversary. On the other hand, CF Montreal have endured a difficult MLS season, sitting dead last in the eastern conference. A CanChamp win would offer some positives in their season, and help push the club in the right direction.
The question is, what does this matchup say about Canadian footy? It says that the CPL continues to improve and get better every year. Forge are looking to become the first CPL team to lift the trophy, and make their staple as the strongest CPL team.
Speaking on French speaking teams, although they didn’t reach the finals, Supra put up a valiant effort, fighting right until the final minute. Although their first go in the league may not be what they had hoped for, their cup success is something to be proud of. The question is if their Quebec counterparts can bring the trophy home to the city of Montreal.
